New build...Ubuntu/XP but not now.
Was planning on doing an upgrade build and be left with tons of perfectly good parts. Well started checking (what I'd built up in parts) and I have enough components to do two builds! One will be a P4 506 with a basic motherboard , 512mb 3200 ram, 120 gig hard drive ata 133 and an eVGA 256mb 5500 FX video card. The other will be the one that I'll keep and do a future dual boot using Ubuntu/XP. This one will be similar except with more ram, two sata hard drives, larger P4 cpu and slightly better video card. The issue I have is I'll be installing Ubuntu on this one now and doing the Vista install later (On the other hard drive). What is the best approach in doing this? What are the basic concerns at this point? Just don't want to wait to start learning a "fully applied" Ubuntu.

If you don't mind changing drives in the BIOS instead of a boot menu, just go right ahead.
My comp is set up that way--I prefer to do it that way. One disk for Linx, one for Windows. You can leave Ubuntu as the default and set up GRUB to to give you boot menu later on, though. There are guides in the Ubuntu Wiki.

Thanks, Just found a 10 gig hd that I'd forgotten about. Going to do an install on that for now and just do a fresh install w/ minimal file transfer later. Going to get up to speed on different install methods and config's in the interim. Great Help !

You'll enjoy Ubuntu. Start digging through the Synaptic Package Manager. You will find some unbelievably cool stuff in there.
Keep an eye on the forums too, you'll find all kinds of cool things and methods in there. Open source rules!!

I'm going to! Afraid I'll be needing quite a bit of help to get a few things configured to do iTunes, video feed from certain sites etc... but what a system you can have. Some buds are fairly knowlegable and they have a lot of slick stuff going on. One friend said you need to just learn a few things and most of it comes easy and a whole word of utility just opens up. All still use Windows too.( But there's tons of stuff that Linux just runs better.) Not one of 'em slams Windows to death. They just use both.
