Ubuntu 6.10- can't get connected to Internet

Let's see if you guys are faster than Ubuntu's forum....

I go to System>Administration>Networking

The only option there is for telephone modem.

How do I get the Wired Connection option to show?

Just a guess - your NIC driver is not installed?

(Had to double post to generate a new notification that I am posting this)

Guide said to try and configure PPPoE but it said need to install NIC driver and asked if I wanted to go to modconf to do so, the word yes is highlighted but nothing happens when I press enter.

Geez, I was hoping this would be more functional than XPee...

Is your NIC based off a newer chipset? If so *might* have to manually install the drivers... or there may not be a Linux driver.

PPPoE is for DSL - if you have cable, that's not what you want. You would want a straight TCP/IP connection.
