Setting environment variables...

I've got a program here I'm trying to run, and it's linux (using Ubuntu) only. To get it to run properly, there are a handful of variables that need to be set. Included is a file (a script of some sort I think) that sets all of the variables. Here's a quick snippet:
Code:
# Please configure the following definitions to reflect your system:
#
# Top level directory:
NAWIPS=/home/gempak/GEMPAK5.10.1
and there's a whole bunch more like that. I need to get this to run at login. It also says in the file:
Code:
# or the individual lines below, must be included in your .login or
#  .cshrc file!
How do I go about doing this? I tried creating a file, .login in the home directory (/home/gempak/ in this case) and copied and pasted the lines in, but it's not setting the variables. I can put 'echo $NAWIPS' in after logging in and it stays blank. I can run the command above manually (copy and paste) and then running the echo command on the variables spits back the path. What am I doing wrong here? Am I even going at this the right way? Basically, I need the variables in the file set on login rather than doing each one manually...

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I'm going to include the whole file as an attachment if you want a looksie.

Thanks!

Are you using Bash? Here is a bit of info on the bash shell.

Look and see if the .profile or .bash_profile is already created, ls - . (tab)

Thanks for the help, mairving. I think I had it set up correctly originally. I think the problem lied with some syntax differences in the script (I guess Bash uses "export" instead of "setenv"). Once I fixed those errors up it's setting variables correctly... Now I just gotta figure how to use the program itself. I just got it to spit some data back at me! Yay!
