I downloaded the Microsoft virtual pc which i found out wasn't for this OS, but i think it works...idk why but i wanted to try it to see if it works where can i get a copy of the linux OS every where i look i cant find a free one and one that looked promising had a virus... any idea where i can get one(if its free). and does anyone have any idea if i can use my system disk to boot an OS on it?

If you are interested in checking out Linux without making a complete commitment, you can always try one of the "live" distributions. If you don't mind downloading and burning an .iso image to a CD any one the Ubuntu based distributions has a downloadable version that will boot off the CD to RAM without affecting your hard drive installation.

I use, and have installed, Kubuntu on my laptop which provifdes me with a lot of enjoyment at the amazing cost of $00.00 (not including the CD I used!). There are a lot of other "live" distros - Knoppix is good and is a favorite among many. Just do a Google search on "Linux live - you'll get a 100 million or so hits .

If you decide to install Linux after trying a live CD, it is possible to dual-boot Linux and Windoze, if you so desire.

Linux is inherently free, so you won't have to look for it in any "not-so-free" places, if you know what I mean

Follow the links above to find a good distribution. I prefer ubuntu myself. Just download the correct version for your computer, burn it to a CD, and stick it into your computer.
