Linux Install Problem
The hard drive on my computer took a crap so i bought a new one (Haitachi ATA133 80GB). I installed the new one and got the computer booting. I am trying to install ubuntu linux on it so i booted from a live cd and it worked. Then when i clicked on the install shortcut on the desktop it pretended like it was going to start but it ended up just closing itself out (without letting me install). I tried opening up the Gnome partition editor, but it did the same thing - pretended like its was going to open but didnt. The games and other programs work just fine. Is it not installing because i have not yet formated the new hard drive? If this is the case, can i format it from the terminal? Thanks for the help.

The first thing I would check is whether the drive shows up correctly in the BIOS set up. If it doesn't, run the autodetect option and then try Ubuntu again. You shouldn't need to pre-format the drive.
