i installed ubuntu over christmas break when my computer was angering me and i didn't have my xp disc there and have been running it ever since as my primary os. sometimes, though, there are programs (ie photoshop - been using it so long, i am not going to learn GIMP) i need to use and i have found it easier just to use a virtual machine rather than dualboot, because 9 times out of 10, i won't be using xp. I use Innotek VirtualBox and its great

Is it a good substitute for WINE? My first experiences with it were less than stellar...

i am unable to compare the two, as i never even tried wine. i have a p4 3.2 with 1gb of ram, and running xp inside a vm is just fine for photoshop. its definitely not as snappy as running it natively, but for the few times i need to use it, its great

I posted this because i know some people may need help on using VMWARE'S. For those who wants their own prebuilt virtual OS i suggest visiting this site www.easyvmx.com (i installed my WINXP flawlessly except i couldn't get my DVD burner to work)
