Linux Live CD?

I am seriously looking into running Linux on my next computer, but wanted to see what Linux was like first. I have used it before, but was a student and did not have administrator privileges. I heard that there was a free Linux live cd. I looked and found some downloadable ones from eMule and ones from BitTorrent. On the BitTorrent page, I downloaded the fourth one down (KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN). But, when I opened the folder, there were no .exe files. Just wondering what I should do to get the free live cd. Should I download the DVD version or a different CD version? Or should I look somewhere else? Thanks.

When you downloaded knoppix, what file did you get? It should be a .iso file, which is a cd image. If you have a burning program such as nero, use it to "create a cd from an image." If you don't have a program (windows will not do this properly by itself) download deepburner. The free version will do what you need (www.deepburner.com).

If you're interested in investigating a distro for possible installation, I'd recommend you get Ubuntu....the installation CD has a live-mode, so you can try it out before deciding to install it. Knoppix isn't designed to be installed onto a harddrive. Ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/
