Repartition back to Windows

I recently installed Ubuntu on the same hard disk as Windows XP but I've decided that I can't be bothered administrating Linux at the moment. I think that if I repartitioned my hard disk so that Windows took up the whole disk I'd be left with a useless hard disk, until I reinstall Windows.

Is there any way to remove Linux without having to reinstall Windows?

You have to reinstall the windows bootloader as it was overwritten by the linux bootloader or you will keep getting the boot selection menu from linux. After that just delete the linux partition(s) and use a partitioning tool to expand your current windows partition to take up the whole disk. Acronis Partition Expert and Partition Magic can handle that task easily. For free, you can try the Parted Magic livecd:

Word of caution - back up your personal data before attempting a partition resize with any tool. There's usually no problem, particularly with enlarging a partition, but resizing is the riskiest partition operation with any tool.

I've used GParted successfully a number of times. It's another bootable CD partitioner (Free, open source :-). Once you delete the linux partition and resize the windows one to take up the whole disk, boot your Windows install cd, and go into the recovery console. Type 'fixmbr' to rebuild the windows boot loader.
