word processor for mac

would neooffice (openoffice copy) be the best choice? i need some program to write my essays since my mac didnt come with any that would work. besides notepad but i cant really use that

We normally recommend OpenOffice as the best free office suite. OpenOffice has a Mac version as well, if you want to try the original. But that NeoOffice looks like a handy port for more Mac-centric features. I'd go with it.
