file/web server questions

Dual boot server for win98, winxp and mac laptop
1. Can a file and web server be built as one server? ie. run samba and apache in one distro (Slackware12)?

2. To setup a File and web server do I have to install and setup both samba and apache?

3. I have an SY6BA+IV, PC100, PIII600e, 640mb, 2hdds ea. 160gb dual boot win98se/slackware12 ... I am afraid of letting go of win98 but its a waste of space to have it occupying 160gb hdd by itself. So I am thinking of reinstalling it on 20 or 30gb /hde1 partition and installing slackware12 /hde2
/root
/swap
hdg1 (second hdd)
/home
/usr
/var
(Please advise?) Thing is once I install and setup I don't want to run the chance of having to do the whole thing over anytime soon.

4. Since Server is on 1 Machine with win98se as dual boot will this create a Host and Domain configuration problem in setting up the Internal Network because they share 1 Ethernet Card and Hardware?

You can run both on one server.

Yep, along with other things that you might need like MySQL, PHP, etc.

You might consider running VMWare and installing Windows 98 in a virtual machine.

You won't have any problems.

Thanks mairving

What is VMWare? I'll google it but how does Vitural Machine work?

Would this eliminate the dual boot setup so that the server is just running slackware12?

Better question is what would running VM and installing win98 in it do for my setup?

Is it advisable to use the internet from a machine I setup as a server?

I really don't want to go onlne with winXP Box and limit internet use with my laptop... Plus win98 is my zone of comfort for messing around downloading software, forums, browsing, and personal stuff, because I know I can always get it back in the least amount of time. lol
