Installing Software on SUSE

I'm currently running Linux SUSE on my old Compaq and to this day, i've never really used it before. I'm trying to install a debian file (*.deb) on my SUSE system but i looked on the internet and couldn't quite find an explanation that i understood. can someone explain to me how to install a debian file on to SUSE?

I don't think SuSE is going to be able to recognize a debian based file (.deb) I would look for either a .rpm or tar.gz version of the software you want to install.

Supposedly you can convert .deb files to .rpm using apt4rpm. I don't know how well it works because I don't use either .deb or .rpm files.
