newbie to Linux need help
Hi the problem that I am having is I tried to update from caldera 2.3
I believe the kernel is 2.2.10 to 3.3.6 let me get why I tried to upgrade received a book on Linux decided to keep it and try the program everything was going fine til I tried to run kde or startx I have an ATI rage fury 128 vcard and there was no driver support so after leaving it on the shelf for a while (because downloading 30 rpms was not my idea of fun at 56K) I later learned about tarballs but still to many to try and collect any way found out that there are some other tar files three 3.3.6 src.tgz downloaded them install'em with "make world && make install && make install.man" she ran half the night when the computer final stopped it was late and I've had my share of late night mishaps so I shutdown started again in the morning the next thing I was to do was xf86cfg that when it started the error message "/lib/libc.so.6 version GLIBC_2.1.3 not found" the commandline is fine can get to the root even x server the vcard problem is fixed but now I can't run kde or startx because of the error also tried updates for glibc-2.1.3-6OL.i386 but no luck so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks ps. system pII 266 440lx rage 128 |
