Linux Links

Just thought I'd put up a list of links that you might like. I invite all of you to help me with this. Please try to keep redundancy down to a minimum (we all know the docs are spread all over the world and such), also please try to avoid extremely newbie oriented/single topic links (like, for example a link to kde) so that we can really build up a good compendium of resources.
Thanx a heap.

Those links are my top ones. I would only add www.linuxjunior.org to it. A smaller, cozyier LNO. It features PETS, (Plain English Tutorials).

I would really like to throw this one in the pot. There are a couple of guys who use Linux exclusively. While they mainly use Slackware, Redhat, and Mandrake, they do some of their own compiling too. The url is http://www.pcnineoneone.com/cgi-bin/...er&conf=conf1.

Hi,

For users of Mandrake primarily, also to RH and SuSe. An excellent source for specifically compiled rpms. Plus you can ask for new rpms to be made!

Good stuff here guys. Very helpful to me because I'm interested in learning and using Linux. I will do some reading and, hopefully soon, be using Linux on my build.

Anyone new to Linux/UNIX CLI (Command Line Interface... i.e. that scary all text thing that you see a lot) should immediately go to

http://www.linuxcommand.org

and follow along with the tutorial. VERY thorough and well explained, and actually walks you through commands that are useful to helping beginners get around in Linux. Also important (including while trying the tutorial, if you come across something you don't understand) while not referring explicitly to Linux is

http://www.wikipedia.com

You can find good explanations of almost any term here, especially computer oriented ones.

Just thought I would add this for new Mandrake/Mandriva users, it will make a Windows>Mandrake transition much easier. It is an easy urpmi configuration tool which gives you text to copy right into a shell. It makes rpm packages much simpler, checking dependecies etc...

Here is a good site for Redhat/Fedora, and overall Linux, newbies. It's mostly based on Redhat, but much of the information is usable in any distro. It's all about the basics of system administration in Linux.

Here is a good link for Debian administration.

I'd also like to second the recommendation for linuxquestions.org. A very helpful site.

Linuxprinting.org is one of the best sites for learning how to set up CUPS printing, finding Linux compatible printers, and Linux drivers for printers that there is. It's a very valuable site.

I haven't seen a link to this site either. It's a large help forum and Linux news site with about 65,000 users. It's called JustLinux.

And, if anyone is interested in Linux programming Linoleum has links to information on just about any programming language used in Linux that you can think of and has some tuturials dedicated to learning Linux programming.

Great distro, if a little intensive to start up, very good with the portal and "emerge" command.

I am in the middle of puting it on my hard drive now. just finishing compiling the kernel and it's the second time i've used this distro
