resolving hostnames

I can't seem to contact my machine by it's hostname. (typhoid.tristate.edu)
this is the output for my hostname, resolv.conf, and ifconfig. The Ip address is in an acceptable range, the machines are in the same subnets, the nameserver address is correct, the domain is correct, is there something I'm missing here?
