Linux mint firefox and java

I have Linux mint 7 dual booting and a Vista PC it all work good except in Linux mint java wont work? I goto some sites and Firefox will say it needs a plug in so I click on it it take me to the Sun Java page were I download it and I install it but it still won't work I made sure it is enabled in Firefox but still no luck so anyone else have any ideas on how I might fix this?

Have you updated to the newest firefox yet?

Have you tried installing java with the synaptic package manager?

Hmm. I just checked mine, and i have java, but not the latest version.

You may want to try and go back a version to see if that works.

Also, disable your add-ons to see if they might be causing problems.

I tried removing FF then reinstalling FF along with java logged in as root and still no work but Opera still does. I also have Mint 7 installed on Microsoft VR pc 2007 and it does the same there too and I made sure I used the package manager and tried it no work then did a raw download of java and still no work plus I disabled all plug in FF that made no difference either. I'm at a lose I don't know Linux that well to think of anything else.

But thanks anyways

I posted this problem on the Linux mint forum so maybe they will have a fix for it and if so I will post it back here.
