Hi,
Ok, we need a little more info. What soundcard are you trying to use, archive format, and the exact error message. Hopefully, then we can try to help you. Most soundcards are supported, so it shouldn't be too hard. Though sometimes Linux can be hardheaded about things. OOPS!

The sound card is a aureal 8830. Not the best choice since they are out of business. any way the error says that the "bash cannot make file" not real sure what that exactly means. the readme file says to "cd" to the driver file and type the command "make install" and of course log in as root. could the make command be corrupt?. should I reinstall that package?
thanks |

Hi,
As far as I can tell the 8830 chipset is supported by Mandy, so the driver should be there for it all ready. Have you tried running sndconfig? Log in as root and type sndconfig, hit enter. It will probe for the soundcard and should find it. HardDrake never seems to get the soundcard going. It always misses my SB AWE64.Do you have Alsa installed? It almost sounds as if make isn't installed. The syntax sounds strange too. Usually you type ./make then ./make install. OOPS! |

I try to use the sndconfig command it tells me that the sound card is not supported it says "the existing kernel module for aureal are binary only". also you spoke of "Mandy" I've searched through the RPM and cannot find a reference to it. I guess I need to do a little more reading. Is there any particular book that you would recommend?

Hi,
Mandy = Mandrake-Linux. http://lhd.datapower.com/db/searchproduct.cgi?_catid=12 Try that link. The Vortex 2 card seems to use the AU8830 chipset, perhaps that driver will work. After looking around I found a bug fix for the compile error here,http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...09&atid=308109 It would appear that you need to make a sym-link to get it compiled. Mandy does the same as RedHat so the fix should work. Give it a try, and if that don't work I'm out of ideas. ![]() OOPS! |
