Does this bios only recognize MS I will never buy a computer frm a manufacturer. Any help is appreciated |

I don't see many Gateways and I've never tried to install Linux on one but this sounds as if there's something proprietary that you're hitting.
I've moved your post to the Alternative Operating Systems where it's more likely that someone who has run into the same problem will see it.

thanks pam, I think it has something to do with intel hardware and/ or bios but hopefully other people have run into this. HDD is a western digital and I can get into it with cdrm so it ok? Right?

Should be, just as long as it's recognized in the bios.

Issue Resolved. For some reason the install was not setting the root partiton on /dev/sda to boot.
I installed so much the file system got corrupted, so I repartitioned and reinstalled. I Checked partition table with Cfdisk which i never used before, I learned w/fdisk and thats what i use. Cfdisk has toogle buttons to set boot partition and marks your selection w/ * Fdisk does not have this feature unless i just don't know of it. It was an easy fix; print out the Partition Table w/Cfdisk, select boot partition /dev/sda and tab to boot press enter and u see /dev/sda1 * and then go thru setup. Thanks hope this saves someone time. lol |
