???command.com - is missing or corrupt???

Trying to setup loadlin for multiple boot - well i thought i was doing good when i was presented w/options for win98, ms-dos, linux. Well i cn't seem to get loadlin to boot linux and everytime i read a doc or instruct in a bk there are always variations. Now when i choose Linux I get 'Command.com is missing or corrpt'. I can boot from floppy into slackware linux but since i am newbie i don't know how to get around the file system to do basic reading and copy of doc and files. I used explore2f to copy loadlin.exe to windows. Now i am totally confused as to folders i need to have a loadlin folder and linux folder w vmlinuz image, intrid image? Or am i supposed to have just one folder w/everything in it? And some say folders go in win dir others say in c: ??? Well guess this is the price for freedom to choose what i use on my pc. Any help soon is greatly appreciated... my hair is whittening out! lol
