After all is that the essense of freedom along w/the responsibility of working towards your choices? lolol I don't yet have slackware8 configured but i will. Only thing now is that I can't keep trashing my win98, have to do some backup work now. Just wanted to share the excitement. Its like having my first computer all over again!

Congrats nightsky! I remember the first time I connected to the net using Mandrake Linux. Unfortunately, that was about all I could do, so I went back to using Windows the next day. Hopefully you'll last longer than I did!

Congratulations

Freedom is great, isn't it. Just don't give up, and after a few weeks you'll forget all about Windows.

Does MSN ISP support Liniux?

Thank you for your support. Linux is pretty over whelming at first glass so much software to choose from and such a network project oriented environment. I reinstalled once b/c initially i did not install everything on the Slackware8 dsk. then came to understand I can easily uninstall any pkg I get familiar w/ and decide not to keep. I now hav a dualboot sys and still using 98 linux is a longterm learning proj and I still have much to learn about win98 and NT. Switching bet terminals is great and I started to config linux for the internet but was told that MSN does not support Linux OS, is that true? Hope not I am locked into a contract w/MSN for another yr.

nightsky - Once you get past the XFree86 stuff and into a Windows-like environment, navigating Linux becomes much easier. Also, I don't think MSN is supported in Linux. Think about it, Microsoft in Linux?

Hi, 5/28/02 BTW before I trashed my hdd trying to install slackware8.1b2 ver last week I was able to configure PPP in Slackware8 to establish an internet connection through MSN
Matter of fact under slackware I enjoyed uninterrupted connections. Alas, two weeks ago I got anxious for the new slackware8.1 version and attempted an iso install for the first time. Back to the drawing board

Why would you say that? Its not that MSN uses a weird dialler as in with AOL. From what I could gather its using a DHCP pool to provide IPs and it could very well be done. http://www.computing.net/linux/wwwboard/forum/8588.html is one such example after checking up with google.
