Sounds like x didn't get installed,if it was me,I'd run update again from the cd..not installing anything new..just letting x reinstall itself at the end. In fact,I think I've seen this error myself..and I believe this is what I did to fix it. Gd lk tho :-)

Just re-ran XF86Config frm "root:"
Re-ran Xf86Config and got windowmaker to come up now. Seems I created some syntax, and erroneous data for monitor and video crd. Basically i don't know what i am doing just trying to learn and figure things out along the way
Thanks for your help

Ok,well I shoulda been a bit more complete in my reply,(sorry 'bout that)in that I should've added that when it came time to the point when it asked you if you wanted to start x automatically..tell it no..then once ya get inside x you can perhaps set x to a lower resolution, then correcting whatever you need to.
I was told once if ya do a start x(space)(windowmanagerhere)you could go into your choice that way but I haven't had success with that yet. Not sure what distro you're using, but it's possible to set a default window session that way as well(gnome display manager comes to mind)..once you get inside I know, and I'm sure there's a way from the console as well,,but that's over my head at this point. |
