Hey guys,
I have an ftp server (an ubuntu box) and I have a question to ask. First, let me explain my setup. My box originally had an 80 gb hard drive installed. I just recently added a 200 gb drive and I used pysdm to automatically mount it at boot. Will my ftp setup start writing files to the 200 gb drive once the 80 gb drive is full? Thanks.

I doubt it - you need to move your FTP path over to the new drive.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be that easy.
That's fine; I plan to upgrade to a bigger HDD soon, anyway. Do you think I could just copy over the config files for FTP and SSH and be alright? I'd rather not configure it again, although if I have to it's not a big deal. I plan to use the same username on the new installation. I can't think of anything else that would keep it from working. I do have one more question: Is it OK that the file system on the box is ext4? I only ask because it seems that some files I've copied over are corrupted. I'm copying them to my NTFS drive on my main PC. Smaller files such as word documents and photos seem to be alright, but when I attempt to install a bigger software package sometimes the program will error out and say that one of the files was corrupt. This may just be some sort of hiccup, but I'm not sure. Like I said before, smaller files are fine. |

The ext4 file system is fine. The file corruption on large files was probably due to some network issue. May also be a hard drive issue but then you would also see problems handling large file operations in general, not just on ftp. Could always check by running the manufacturer's hard drive diagnostics, especially on those old 80 and 200GB hard drives.
If you are running the same OS version on your ftp server, copying over your configuration files should work fine. |
