Headache-less sound card for linux?
I have an old ensoniq sound card which I have never been able to get to work on my limited attempts at running linux. I just installed Mandrake 8.1 and love it, and will consider switching to it entirely (losing W98SE) if I can get my audio and Internet working.
I'm looking into getting a cheap soundcard (just for making mix audio cds and ogg files). Can anybody recommend an idiot-proof card that will work? I checked the Mandrake page for supported hardware, but there is nothing "certified" listed. Also, I'm getting a NIC so that I can hook up my motorola surfboard cable modem to it rather than the USB as it currently is. (Under KDE, I can see the modem but can't get it to access the Internet.) Hints/tips on getting this thing to work (RoadRunner) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Todd |

Look around for a Soundblaster AWE64 or AWE32.
The Lives have drivers now as well (not sure on the 5.1, but the previous Live Value does). |
