What partition file system for Linux?
I would like to run W2K, XP and Linux as a multi OS on my PC but have no idea how to partition and format my disk. Can any one point me to some good advice?

Get System Comander if you want an easy and stable boot manager. I've used it for several months now, and love it. It has a great wizard that is easy to use, and a "go back" wizard, if you screw up.

If you have an empty disk, install W2K first. When prompted, select to creata a new partition, leaving enough room for the others.
After installing W2K, install XP. When prompted, select to create a new partition, using the free space available and leaving enough room for LInux. Then install Linux. This steps should work on Red Hat. 1) When prompted, select Disk Druid to partition. 2) In the remaing free space, create a swap partition of twice your memory (type linux swap) and a root partition (type LInux native, mount point /). Ignore any message about the root partition being in cilinders above 1024. At the end of the installation, you have to configure the LILO (LInux Loader). Make sure that the XP and W2K partitions are marked. Hope that helps... |
