What distro should I go with?

Hi all,

I have the following linux distributions available:

Red Hat 7.0
Red Hat 7.1
Mandrake 8.0

I'm gonna be installing linux as the only OS on this machine:

K6-2 @300mhz
128mb ram
2gig hdd
HP cdrw
S3 4mb AGP videocard
SB Live Value soundcard
Linksys 10/100 NIC

Could I go with RH 7, or would RH 7.1 or Mandrake 8 support more of the hardware I listed? Thanks in Advance for sharing your opinions and suggestions.

Hey Floppy,

Mandrake is generally regarded as the easiest Linux distro (in regards to setup and hardware support), so I would use that. The last version I used was Mandrake 7.2 and the install was pretty easy, had it up and running in about the same time as a Windows machine with no CLI commands needed. Hope that helps.

Thanks Dr. Zauis,

Have you had experience with Red Hat 7.1? I've used both Mandrake and RH in the past and it has also appeared to me that Mandrake seems a little easier/user friendly than Red Hat, but I also like Red Hat. Would RH 7.1 support all this hardware? If so, I might give it a try. Thanks again.

Hello,
If possible,I would recommend you to install the latest version of RH which is version 7.2 because it included the Ext3 filesystem which is better than the old Ext2.
