Hi all,
Having a, seemingly, strange problem. Installed Mandrake 8.1 last week (my first shot at a Linux distribution). After messing with it for a bit, I decided that I liked it and wanted to transfer some Windows files over. Since I run Win2K and have formatted with NTFS, I needed to boot back and forth, as neither Linux nor Windows could 'see' each other. The file I most wanted to transfer was my PIM file. I use Lotus Organizer 6.0. I figured the best way was to convert to iCalender and then open in KOrganizer (more features than Star Office). Conversion on the Windows side went fine. Put file on a floppy. Rebooted to Linux. Opened KOrganizer. Clicked 'Open'. Recognized my file. Wne I opened it, however, all my appointments were placed 6 hours later (an 8AM was seen as a 2PM). After considering the problem, and trying other Organizer programs (Gnome-Cal and Star Office Events) and getting the same results from each, I realized that each program was identifying my time zone as 'Berlin'. When I changed this in Star Office, my ics file was read correctly. KOrganizer and Gnome-Cal continued to believe I was in Berlin. Changed each of their time zone settings. No change. Logged on as root. Made sure my system time zone was not Berlin (I am actually Eastern Standard Time). Still no change. I have tried everything I can think of, and the only thing that seems to have worked, is if I go back to Windows, change THAT time zone to Berlin, reconvert and copy the file, change th time zone back and reboot to Linux. KOrganizer and Gnome-Cal will then read my file correctly. I have nothing against the German people, but any suggestions to get Mandrake to believe I am NOT from Berlin. Thanks in advance. |

Here's some more bizarre stuff. I was reading and posting at PCMech for about 2 hours, from about 1:30-3:30 AM. After posting the time would show the correct local time. I was using Mozilla. I close Mozilla for about 15 minutes, but didn't turn off my internet connection. Opened Mozilla, went back to PCMech, and now all my (an other's) post are 6 hours foward! Maybe I am in Berlin...
