smokin Linux and DSL

I recently got an external DSL modem (Linux didn't support internal card) I'm wanting to setup a firewall and proxy server with it thinking about using Mandrake Single Network Firewall any help on setting this up would be appreciated. Fairly new to Linux.

Modem is an Alcatel 1000 external Ethernet.

Thanks in advance.

Winston

What's your problem? What distribution are you using? Are you wondering if the modem is supported? You might try looking at the Linux Hardware Database. If you want to know if you can connect a Linux based network to the web via DSL you might want to look at this site.

Let us know what you want.

Is that Mandrake 7.2 SNF? I tried, but I think it beat me...

I got through the setup, but I don't yet know if it will act as a firewall...

I'm also wandering about where to find perhaps a wlakthrough to setup 7.2 SNF.

I am still unsure. Are you trying to hook up one computer to the internet or are you trying to connect a network to the internet? I don't use Mandrake yet(actually my Linux box's MOBO failed before I could install Mandrake 8.1 and as soon as my new system shows up I plan to install Mandrake.) You might try going to Mandrake's website. It has a link to a Mandrake users group that might be of some help. The link I gave you to the Linuxnewbie networking article has links to various hardware howto sites that should provide information concerning whether your DSL modem is supported. You might also ask your DSL provider.

By the way, how are you hooking your external DSL modem to your computer?

Ok thanks. Yes trying to setup a network on the internet. Got the user guide for SNF off Mandrakes site. Let you know how it works out.
