Hey Ex, Here's an update on the problems I was having. I tried using a Pentium Processor instead of the Cyrix (that wasn't it)to see if that would fix the problem where the video would lock up when I was logging out. Well, after an accidental power down, I cleaned the File systems and was shutting down and when it went back to the console to finish shutting down, It reported an error at an address in memory.
I decided to pull out the 2 16MB chips I bought at a computer show, and I haven't had that locking up problem since. I think those chips may have overheated the black on the actual modules seems really soft on the one. (I have run into a problem with Gnome since I only have 16MB of RAM, It now gives me notices that panel and Gmc are either slow or stopped, then when I click okay it goes into Gnome. I figure that's due to the RAM shortage and I have just been using KDE with no problems) Anyway, now I'm looking for a 64MB PC66 SDRAM DIMM. I hope once I get it the problems won't return. By the way I think I can fix the other problem of the modprob command not beinng found and the other file that's not found at startup by reinstalling after after I get the new RAM. I figure that now that I'm resolving my hardware problems, A fresh install may be best. I may also, upgrade (after reinstalling 7.0) to Mandrake 7.1 (do you know if that version is now using Xfree86 4?). Have you heard of any problems with the new release?

I hope the RAM swap will solve your problems, I somehow doubt it. But should be interesting to note nonetheless. A fresh install isnt really necessary, but I guess if you had lots of errors on your previous installation wrt the media then its a good idea.
When you say low on RAM .. you do have 32MB, how much swap are u using? I have GUI running on 32MB RAM and I dont have a lot of really painstaking lethargy, I mean I understand that I have 32MB and dont compare it with a machine with more. What windows manger are u using? There are a helluva lot of tweaks within the different managers u can use to speed up the whole thing.
Mundrake 7.1 does have X server 4.0, there is however a catch, in what is advertised vs what you get, the video card specific drivers are for 3.3.6 X4 is great and I havent had any problems with it, not that I had much of X3.x.xx that I couldnt trace to bugs in other software. I'd suggest you upgrade to version 4.0.1, I did have some issues with 4.0!

Right now I have 16 MB RAM and only have KDE,Gmone, failsafe and Windowmaker loaded. I only use KDE or GNome didn't care for WindowMaker. I like the 7.0 version and if the new RAM I get solves doesn't bring back the problem I'm pretty much happy. Like I said the messages in Gnome didn't occur until I removed the 32MB of RAM and left only RAM 16MB (Swap is 250MB which when I'm in the graphical mode you can hear the drive when it starts swapping out info.) my family is getting used to getting around in KDE and Gnome and are having fun with all the little games (my youngest especially like smacking the replica of Bill Gates in XBill, good Boy! :-) ). Since it hasn't been giving them the problem of locking up and needing to be constantly cleaned, They haven't been complaining about the OS any longer. (Now just speed... it boots a little slow, and opening the GUI takes a little bit...but not all that long.)
I'll keep you up on things as they happen.
