I am having difficulty getting the smbd and nmbd servers to run on Solaris 8. I am using a packaged version of Samba 2.0.5a that I downloaded from sunfreeware.com. I am able to start the individual servers as a daemon within Solaris 2.6 by typing nmbd -D or smbd -D on a command line. I have done this as root and as a regular user. When I type the same command in Solaris 8 I don't get any type of error, the server simply doesn't start. Is additional configuration required after installing Samba? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
