No modem under linux

Linux red hat 7.2 didn't detect my modem, I tried "autodetect" but found nothing, I added it manually but it didn't work, what can I do?

do you have a win modem ?, if not try going into linuxconf (logged on as root) you should be able to setup your modem from there. If you can't run linuxconf you may have to install it from your CD
