While trying to install Mandrake 8.1 (a downloaded copy) I get this message. Any ideas?
"Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably a hardware error while reading data. (This may be caused by a hardware failure or a Linux kernel bug)." That is as far as the install got. Just for grins I tried to install it on another computer and got the same message. Is this due to a bad file that may have happened during the download? I got the copy from www.linuxiso.org. Thanks, freezinbutt |

Very possibly a bad burn. I would retry it.

If it's not a bad BURN, it'll be a bad file itself.
To check, get yourself the MD5Summer and check the MD5 sum of the file MD5 Summer (program which will find out the MD5 sum of the file): http://etree.org/software/md5sum.exe To check the Original MD5 Sum: http://www.linuxiso.org/mandrake.html HTH, Thanks,
