Well slowly, but steadily I am moving forward in setting up my server! I have figured out that the Apache problem I was having was attributed to the CGI script being in a different environment then that in which it was written and so it could not find the Perl interpreter among other things. I got Qmail set up (almost pulled all of my hair out in the process of getting the pop3 server to work)! Ftp seems to function and samba is functioning pretty well.
I am running into a little problem however! Some Windows clients on the network can not log into the samba server on the Linux machine and see any shares. It just flashes a password screen with the \\server \IPC$ as a resource and then asks for the password and I can't get anywhere from here, it seems every password I enter is wrong!!!! It really bothers me since I can log into it from one Windows machine and can see and modify the shares. I have the users created in the system and everything else seems to match the user able to log into the machine! If somebody can save me a pound of sanity, PLEASE do not hesitate to post back! Thanks to all for the replys. Leo. |

Since some of the machines can log on to the Linux server and some can't and you have followed the same user, password, and share creation procedures for all users, you might take a look at how the windows machines are setup. It could be simple. When I want to log on to my Samba share from my wife's machine, I have to log off as her and on as me.

Well it looks like the common denominator in all the Windows clients unable to logon was that their name was of this nature : "name pc", meaning there was a space in the name and for some reason linux does not allow me to create user names of that format! Changing the names to just a single name without spaces seems to have done the trick! Thanks for the reply! Leo.

Strange, could you put quote marks around the PC name and that would work?
Thanks Jim |
