Yes, you can dual boot.
Get your linux distro here> linux central Mandrake8.1 is usually recommended for newbies like you and me.

There are a variety of places to obtain Linux CDs. You can buy a boxed set with a manual and several CDs, you can download the CD images then burn your own install CDs, you can get them from a CD reseller such as bosco suggested.
One thing to remember, is that for the most part, Linux will require its own partitions as it has its own file system -- it's not FAT32 or NTFS. You will want to consider re-partitioning your hard drive or adding another drive. I would suggest lurking the Linux forums such as this one, and others, doing searches in www.google.com/linux, and maybe even doing some reading. You will see talk of various distributions, which are packages of Linux and linux programs that various groups and companies distribute or sell. They are all Linux, but some have easier installation processes than others and you may want to consider these first. I love Linux!! However, my family doesn't quite share my enthusiasm, so I have my own (low powered) laptop that I use to do my Linux learning and Linux doing !! I have a couple of distributions lying around, butI started with Mandrake 8.0 and that is still the distribution that my system is based on.Look, learn, try, take advice (always with a grain of salt), and jump in -- the water's fine. |

I have Win Linux 2000. lets say you have win98 on the pc, and then you run the install. what it does is, it puts an icon on your desktop. you then would launch the icon, and it will then boot into Linux. and thats it, no dual booting at the command prompt. when you exit the linux system. it will then reboot the pc, right back into 98.
Nice program, but different... |
