What is your XWindow Manager/ Browser Combo?

I think I installed everything that came on Slackware8 CD. Am currently trying to run Gnome. Have Mozilla, Galeon, Netscape and Nautilus kind of running. I crash them alot, get impatient with the loading spd of one and open the other - don't know how to turn off images and most sights are so animated with ads it sucks. In any case what r u all using? I am trying to learn irc now and ftp ... see if i can get more communication flexibility

I personally like KDE but I know a lot of people think it is too bloated. I run some pretty fast hardware so I don't have all that much trouble with it.

My browser of choice is Opera. I like it because it is very customizable and you can knock out all of those annoying pop ups.

By the way I am running Mandrake 8.2

How come there r 4 system terminals? A white background,
xterm in black, eterm w a pic of the tropics in red, GDM says i hav to be supper usr... Are they ea for a diff type of programing?
Nautilus works as a file manager don't seem like a good idea to go online with it since I manage my drives and folders on it??? gnome/sawmill... Mozilla 0.9.1 looks like a fat netscape, netscape ver 4.77 crashed last nite. Probably need to upgrade these browsers to latest ver but do i do that like i wld under win98? Wonder if there is an installer for my setup Mozilla 5.0 (x11; U ; Linux2.2.19 i686; en us; rv: 0.9.1 - On the Mozilla latest builds site there is reference to an installer for some setups? Not sure I am reading it right.

I like Enlightenment, and sometimes XFce. Both are small and very fast. Mostly for a browser I use Mozilla 0.9.9. Runs as fast as anything for me, and very stable. Hasn't crashed yet. I use Opera once in a while. But it takes forever to load, and it crashes for me once in a while.

Personally, for me Nautilus turns my awesome K6-2 350 ( ) into a really good boat anchor. So I avoid it like the plauge.

I recommend upgrading your Mozilla to the latest milestone. But you will need to unistall your old version first then install the new version and you should be good to go.

OOPS thanx. How exactly do I download and install the latest ver of mozilla and remove the old ver ??? What r the steps involved in me doing this? Everything i am doing in linux is now for the first time. Thanxs again

I don't use Slack, but go to mozilla.org and grab your distro's package type (i.e.- rpm, tarball, deb, or source). Then just use your distro's package manager to uninstall your old version, then install the new.

I just looked and ver. 1.0 RC1 is out. Check out the release notes to see if you want to try that. Otherwise, look at the ftp site for older versions. I'm downloading now!!

I was at mozilla.org all nite reading through their release notes and they make mention of an installer pkge. Now i have to figure out what type of pkg Slackware 8 used w/distro. I have two gd bks thier official guide and "Instll, Configure, and Customize" !

I think that Slack uses tarballs. But if in doubt any distro can se the tar.gz format. I've never had any luck using the installer package myself on Mandy. Most everyone else does though. I just go to the ftp site and grab the rpms directly.

I finished getting Moz 1.0 RC1. Looks very good so far.

I vote for KDE and Opera 6 Beta 2. I like all the perks that Opera has. I don't mind that little ad banner at all
