problem partitioning

Hi

I have a system running XP. I have partitioned my 40gig HD into 2 partitions. one is 10gig and the other 30gig. I then partitioned the 30 gig sectionso I have two 15 gig drives. I have just got redhat linux and would like to put that on the one 15gb drive. However I think I must have setup the 30gig partition into two logical partitions as fdisk sees only 2 partitions namely the 10gig and the 30gig. I have a lot of applications running off the one 15gig partition and would like to keep that.

Could I format the one logical drive into FAT32 and would redhat be able to install there? Is there any shareware software that could make my job easier?

There are a couple of good programs you could use. Two that spring to mind are system Comander and Acronis OS Selector. These two both allow you to resize different partitions to free up space (without loosing any data) and then use the free space as a new partition. These are just two that I have heard good reports of, they are both bootloaders, and I use Acronis OS Selector and it recognises Linux. Both of these I think you have to pay for at least to use the Disk Tools in them anyway.

Actually there's no reason why you can't let RedHat set itself up. There's really no reason to make a FAT32 partition that's just going to be re-set up with Linux filesystems. The RedHat partitioning software (fdisk or cfdisk) should detect what ever partitions you already have and give you a choice of what/how much space to occupy. I would recommend just going for it !!
