Question Doom 2 for Linux

Hi,

I downloaded doom 2 for linux (it's avaliable @ download.com), but after extracting the archive, and when I try to run the game main file, I get an error message about not being able to execute the binary file, I'm running the game as a root, so what should I do?
If someone has tried the game before, please help!
Specs:
Red Hat 7.2
Kernel 2.4.7
KDE

Check the easy thing first. Right-click on the file and check permissions to see if the EXECUTE permission box is checked. It wouldn't be the first time I downloaded an executable, that wasn't permissioned to be executable.

I'm running the game as root, so the problem isn't here.

It's not the same thing. Try taking the .EXE extension off of a windows app, and try to run it, You'll get the same effect. A lot of times in the process of getting transfered from computer to computer, the EXEC , READ or WRITE permissions get changed. Even root can't make it act right, unless root changes the permissions to let him or herself preform the task. I'm not saying this is the problem in your case, but it's a GREAT place to start. Others are, do you have all the files, I think doom requires a wad file., Check carefully the hardware requirements, especially, if you are running accellerated video. Linux games are much more picky about their environments than their windows counterparts, in this case. I don't have the Linux version of this game, myself - Good Luck

Thanks for your help,
I changed the permissions of the files, and I'm still getting the error message.
I have the wad file.
Any way, I think he problem is from the game itself, many people reported similar errors on download.com.
