OK Mac is better guys, not a clue what I'm doing here
Never played on a Mac in my life, but got the opportunity to play on a fubar'd iMac. Try to boot it up and get the message:
Sorry, a system error occurred. "~ATM" error type 119 To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold donw the shift key. 1) It doesn't restart when you click restart 2) Holding down the shift key returns the same error Get me going Mac guru's so I can play and find out what the fuss is all about.

If you have a OS CD you can boot off of it to by pass the error. To boot off of the cd start the imac up and hold the "C" key down.
ATM might refer to Adobe Type Manager, so I would check the extensions for something pertaining to that. Another way of fixing these errors is to replace the "Finder", the "System breifcase" and the "Finder Preference" You can get all of these from the OS System cd. Try doing this and get back to me with what you've come up with. I can give more help then! |

Don't have the CD... long story. Yes, it's Adobe Type Manager and I finally did get in and disabled it. Other than disabling it now, is there anything that can be done to repair the situation so the machine runs with it enabled?
Keep in mind I'm breaking new territory here... my first day on a Mac. |

Hal9000, basically which you probably realize, the file you disabled probably got corrupted some how. The only other way is to add it from the cd that created it. Which I'm guessing you don't have either. I don't consider myself a Mac Guru, but I work on them at my place of business as well as IBM based computers. I have friends that are more gifted in the Mac area, so if you ever have a question I cannot answer I can find the answer from one of them.
P.S.: You might want to run "Disk First Aid" or "Disk Warrior" if you have them. These are only alternative options. Last edited by snakeyes; 06-14-2002 at 03:30 PM. |

Much appreciated. Yea.. don't have the disk, we just have the computer, nothing more. I'll have to do some scrounging now with the other techies in town to see if I can round up some software for this thing to get it running properly. The place we got it from thought the machine was dead, but it's very much alive. Actually, it may be best to just get the original software for it and wipe it clean.

I'd recommend that, and it is a simple/quick procedure! Good luck and let me know if you need any more help. -Snakeyes

I Love my Mac. Photoshop and Freehand, to name just two, peform way more smoothly, plus there's the bonus of receiving virus-laden emails that are rendered completely useless! Not to mention (as I must have said a million times) if installing Windows (any flavour) was as easy as Installing the Mac OS, I would have entire days of my life back by now.
Anyway, don't worry about ATM, it's fairly notorious for causing problems, and unless you want to use the iMac for serious desktop publishing (which I'm assuming you're not) it's mostly unnecessary. Somebody should have an old copy of OS 8.6 (very stable) lying around somewhere if you want to start from scratch , that would be a good starting point. Hope all goes well, I'd love to see you get this working! Dogwelder |

You mean I can post questions about macs too!? Fantastic, I was just trying to find a forum that could help my brother who's a mac user, but if someone here can help I will register him up.
It's a monitor card issue I believe. I will post my question unless someone expresses an objection to mac questions. |

Actually, I got what I needed here, scrounged up a disk, and repaired my first Mac. I then proceeded to their web page to look at their repair tutorials and tore the whole thing apart and put it back together again just for fun.
