removing Mandrake 7.0
Hi all,
A while back I installed 7.0 with hopes to dabble.. but lately I've been low on disk space and i want to recover the 2G that I donated to linux. Partition Magic 7.0 doesn't see the linux partition, and fdisk sees the extended partition to delete, but cannot delete it because it says there is a logical disk that has to be removed first - however, fdisk can't find a logical disk when i go to delete it! The bootable CD has no option for uninstalling - so, can I uninstall from within Mandrake? Any ideas? Thanks! pete |

You have to use a Linux partitioning program to remove it. Use the install CD. Run the install to the partitioning part. Use Custom partitioning to get to the linux partitioning program. Use it to delete the partition and write the partition table back to the disk. Linux Fdisk works best. Be sure you read all the help prompts. You don't want to trash the wrong partition. Alternatively change the partition type to a windows Fat 32, and format it with win later.

If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP you can just use the utility that comes with Windows to claim back the disk space used by Linux. Go to the control panel and under permormance and maintenance use the computer management option under administartive tools. There you can free up the space using the disk management tool under "storage".
