Usb Adsl

I've orderd a new 80gig hdd today, and when it arrives it will be for my linux o.s

What i need frmo you guys is someone to help me get me adsl (usb) modem working on it, :-)

I've read a few pages on it and there was alot of un needed info on there that made it confusing for the newbie i am,

If someone has installed/configured there system to work with the usb adsl modem could be so kind as to write me down a mini step-by-step walkthrough, keeping it as simple as can be

I would really appreciate anyone who tries to tackle this problem with me,

Thanks alot guys,
James

Hi James,

We'll, there is an ongoing Linux driver project for that modem at this site.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/speedtouch

But I've never dealt with USB modems in Linux so I don't know much about the installation proccess. There is also this page with a bit more info.

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DSL-HOWTO/speedtouchusb.html

Hopefully someone with more Linux experience can help out as well.

I've choosen mandrake as the flavour im going to use,
I was taking a look on

http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/82hard.php

And it says:

Internet wizard that supports classic modems, DSL, ISDN, cable connections and USB modems (not Winmodem).

Is this meaning that after irun the install teres a nice wizzard waiting for me to set me up with my USB ADSL??

And im taking it the USB ADSL modem i have is a hardware modem, i fiureded as much but it doesn hurt to double check

Thanks again,
James

Well, I don't think USB modems are catergorized as "hard" and "soft" like regular modems, but the Mandrake install should have some USB drivers that should work (according to that first link I posted).
