Cannot find mmy modem

Ok i have followed the steps as best i can from

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/v...n.html?rev=1.3

But when i try ifconfig ppp0 i get device not found error

Is there any way someone can help with this, im a complete newbie to linux (as some of u know from previous threads)

Im trying to set up this USB ADSL modem on the latest red hat distro

I'm sort of new to Linux too, but is the modem on and plugged in and working properly? When you do ifconfig are you logged in as root? Try logging in as root. Also try checking the hardware compatibility list at http://www.redhat.com. Als owhat version of Redhat is it? If its 7.x then it should be fine, but if its anything higher (not sure what the newest Redhat version is, I'm a Mandrake user) then you will have to compile your own Kernel.

Hi,
Well im on the latest redhat distro, and the modem is a USB ADSL one, Acatel

i've followed those steps on the link i posted above but its like redhat still cant find the modem,

Can anyone here run me through some steps of how to get this type of modem working under redhat,
