Sound problem

Ok i got yet another one to ask

Im having a bit of a problem with my sound on redhat 7.3 (kde)

I can play files fine in Xine and i get sound, (i was using Xine for my avi files)
Then i just tried playing an mp3 file in its default application (being Noatn) and i dont get any sound,
I tried it in a couple others like Kaboodle and still no sound

I have two sound cards on the system (one onboard) and Gnome worked fine with the onboard one,
When playing with Xine it wanted the other sound card,
(i've tried both various times)

Is there a way to specify one sound card, or is there something else i should be doing here

Thx guys,
James

I've noticed that sound in linux is a serious pain to get working unless you have a true blue SB live. What kind of card are you using? Integrated sound in my experience has always been the hardest to get working.
