Never tried DivX in RH before but you may try opening install in a text editor to see if it's a shell script and if it has some info, if it's a binary file, try running it.
Maybe someone who has installed DivX will be more helpful.

I dont seem to have Xine and none of the players seem to work perhaps because it is AVI not MPEG?

Mine would be AVI files too (well most)

This isnt really the answer you were looking for i know but an upgrade to 7.3 could do the trick,

Or just installing Xine could be an idea, check out http://freshmeat.net/projects/xine

(i would go with installing Xine first - save a complete re-install)

I don't know about this particular file, but some of these 'install' files have to be run from a shell window, with a ./ in front of the file name ie ./Install (As root and case sensitive, of course)

M.S is on the right lines i think - i remember having to do that with a few installs,

Another idea, incase M.S ./ idea doesnt work - have you tried opening the 'Install' file with a text editor, i no it sounds common sense to alot but it could be overlooked

There is a forum set up with a format, much like this one. You may find your answer there, or at least be able to post a question

I'm guessing you mean you want the 'bugfixed' version?
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rh71-errata.html

There is the page of the applicable bugfix files for 7.1 RH. The one for gcc is listed farther down the page. I would look close at the GNU C Library updates , glibc too if this is the case.

At any rate you download the correct rpms for your architecture ie i386 and open them up with kpackage. If they are files already on your system the program has an option for upgrading your install...
