Reading linux files in windows apps
If I make a text in StarOffice for Linux, can I open it in Word 97?
Can I read other linux's files in Windows? TIA

you should be able to read all word compatible files that Linux Apps create i.e. .doc, .rtf, .txt, and what others there are. I believe rtf is a preferred format as it is the most common filter in linux office apps. Reading files that word saves is another story.

From Star Office word processor, use the Save AS function and do it as a 'Microsoft Word 97 format' , You should get a reasonable file. I downloaded open office 1.0 and haven't had too much trouble. TMAN is correct, that if you save as an .rtf file, many Win word processors will be able to open it. I don't know what version of Star you are using, or how complicated your text formatting could be
If you save in a non-native format for Star, it will probably ask you if you want to save a copy in it's native format, in case you would lose some formatting in the translation,,,
