Installing freebsd

OK I've been searching for 5hrs now and I'm trying to install freebsd it says to use the ker.fps file and copy this to a floppy it says the file is 1.41meg but says it is to large for floppies can anyone help me get this going , Oh and by the way I'm new here been to alot of boards and this one seems really nice I think I'll enjoy this one

I don't know about the floppy business, but I just downloaded the one ISO of fbsd 4.6 and booted to it, installed no problem. Are you trying to do an ftp install or something?

no I'm trying to install 5.0 should I go with thoe other version

Well, 5.0 isn't on the STABLE branch yet, so if you are going to be running a server or something it may be smart to go with 4.6. Although I don't really know why you're having a problem with it, are you just trying to do a regular install from the CD? In most cases you don't need a floppy.

yep trying to do a regular install and I do have a server up won't boot from the disk and it explains how to make a boot but the disk they want you to use is just slightly larger than 1.44 it said you need to download them in binary mode but still comes out to large I've download the other version I'll see if that helps.
