What Distro Recommended

I have a 486 laptop with 16mb and 300meg harddrive. and I want to make use of the machine. What is a good distro of linux should I install?? I was thinking about freebsd. You think that would be good enough? or would that just eat up my resources?

It would eat up your resources. with those kind of specs. Try something along the lines of a LOAF or Coyote etc.

Under these circumstances, you'd have better luck finding out why you want Linux and then get a distro targetted for that application rather than a generic installation of a bloatware.

Try some of : http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html for a minimalist version of Linux

I would go with an older redhat (release 5 series) or debian... I hope your not hoping to run X, and if you do you best be careful what window management / session management you use... good luck.. (btw I got debian minimalst the other day to install in just over 40 mb)...
