Header files
Someone was telling me that Red hat (dont know about other distributions) when installing does not install something like the header files? So you can not get the graphical interface and when trying to install programs you get a lot of errors. Is this making any sense, because I installed Red hat 7.1, and actually kde worked but I tried extracting a program called enlightenment and got a bunch of errors saying that directories are not present. Does this have to do with the headers.

I know that Mandrake, and probably RedHat also, does not by default install the kernel source -- that's probably what your hearing. That is not a problem unless you compile programs and those programs require something out of the kernel source header files. Still not a problem, because you can always grab the source rpm file(s) and install to your hard drive.
As to the Enlightenment problem, see if you can try again and get the exact error message(s). It could be an rpm dependency problem, or it could be a permissions problem. |

Use red-carpet / ximian to manage it and it shouldn't be a problem... they are pretty good with updates and available products...
