install win2000 & linux
Hi,
Currently, my computer is running on windows 2000. I believe my hard drive has only 1 partition. How do i install Linux Mandrake 8.2 in another partition without wiping current data on my hard drive? My System: Compaq Presario 400 Mhz 20 gig Maxtor 96 MB Ram CD-RW Thanks |

Hi xminh,
Try asking this question in the Alternate Operating System Forum. Cricket

When you set up mandrake, just use the "beginner" settings on the install. Tell it to use disk free space to create your partition, and it should work just fine. I have Win98, and installed Mandrake 7.2 later. It allocates space for itself without messing up windows. A word of caution, though. I would back up necessary files first, though. Things can happen!

if you have extra hard drive space, you could use partition magic, and you run it and select the partition and resize it. Then leave the extra area empty, and run mandrake install and it should just let things run nicely and just have it automatically partition (still keeping the windows partition intact). If you don't want to run partition magic (I will say that it's very easy and friendly to use) there is the built in partitioning program in the installation.
