Cd-rw

I am about to buy a new CD-RW for my Linux box (Mandrake 8.1). Any suggestions in the Linux environment?

BTW, I haven't been able to open the Linux hardware database for several days. Anybody know if others are having the same problems?

Hi,

Yeah, it seems to be down for me too. But, most burners are supported under Linux. Unless it needs some kind of funky drivers to work even under Windows. If it is any help, I have a HP burner that runs great under Mandy 8.0.

OOPS!

I have noticed one thing. At least for myself, it seems to work a whole lot easier if you install Linux on the computer after the burner is installed, than to install the burner, then try to configure it into the current Linux distro. Your mileage may vary.

I've got a LiteON 48x burner that I haven't gotten to work yet. It is recognized as a SCSI device, but maybe this is normal. I have not been able to burn anything using KOnCD. Anybody know whether this burner is supported? If so, what could I be doing wrong? Using RH 7.3. Thank.
