I know that this isn't the best place to ask this, but where can i buy mandrake linux 8.2 from that ships to APO addresses? I've tried buy, amazon, and the linux-mandrake websites but none of them ship to APO addresses. I also looked at tigerdirect, and directron, but none of them have mandrake linux (although they do ship to apo addresses) any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it would be easier to install if i had all of the books and stuff as this is my first try with linux. Also i only have a 56k connection and it would take days to download it.

Actually the setup is the easiest thing I've ever seen....probably too easy.

The setup is extremely easy so you probably won't need to mess around with any books, but you should probably read it if you are unfamiliar with partitioning, and also if any unexpected terminology presents you. Make sure you read the book though, it will save you down the road though, I found that out the hard way, I'd just go to www.mandrakesoft.com and just order it off of there, at least they'll probably throw in an extra book or some kind of goody, and you'll be sure it's there (and it's 9.0).

the problem with mandrake is that it initializes a few services too many not too mention its instability and its tendency to not exactly install everything I ask for. It's great for gaming and adequate for learning, though.

Well...the only place you'll probably ever be able to find it (unless you hunt for weeks) is online...so it'll take several days to be shipped...
You could try to download it while searching to buy...though 3 cds over 600mb will take a while...just leave it on overnight \

Cameroth, I'm not real sure how the APO thing works, but I looked at Cheapbytes.com, and it looks like they have about 10 different shipping options. Hopefully this link will work http://cart.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/c.../shipinfo.html
at least to check the options out. If they have a suitable method, just enter through http://www.cheapbytes.com and check out the products. They sell official distros, GPL disks, and a variety of different books. Hope this helps. -MS |

have a friend/relative with a high speed line? you could pay for the pizza and beverages while you watch the game and download/burn the 3 cds. that's what I'd do.

Just remember with most boxed versions of linux, what you're paying for is the support.
