A minor question (I think)
I am running Windows ME on my master HD, and I installed Windows XP on a partition on my slave HD. Everytime I start up, I get a screen asking what OS I want to use. Well, I straight up wiped my slave HD, and I'm guessing that I should have uninstalled XP or something to that effect before I did the wipe, because I still get a screen at startup asking what OS I want to use. Of course it doesn't work if you choose XP, but I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can delete that reference to XP and just get it to startup in Win ME without asking. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Check out this old thread
Hey there Life36
I hope it's treating you OK. What you are seeing with that multi OS menu at startup is XPs multi-boot setup (did you install XP Home or Pro on your slave HDD - my guess is Pro as I don't think Home creates the multi-boot thing - Pro is supposedly NT based and Home isn't I think) and it puts boot.ini in your C: primary partition. Read the following old thread which relates directly to this situation. If you have a Me start floppy you can boot this (according to Reboot) and : 1. fdisk /mbr 2. sys c: After running these two commands in DOS you then remove your start floppy and reboot (that's life with Doze I guess ).Now you should have no startup multi OS menu and should go straight into Me. Read this thread as it will give you more info about all this. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...ight=Web+Gecko Take note particularly what reboot has to say and the info I pasted in from another thread on this subject (also from reboot). Good ole reboot knows his stuff. Anyway I hope this helps. Let me know how you went. cheers The Web Gecko |
