type StartX and then press enter - this you need to do only once - RH5.2 has "DOskeys enabled so using the up and down cursor on the next boot will how you the line and all you then have to do is the same - pressing enter..

yea the most easy way for you and the OS - buy new VGA or switch back to Windows - I don't think that this 6326 will run on RH5.2 - try a GENERICone or go www.redhat.com - I don't know what they have there - .

Before you invest in hardware, you may wish to try a lot newer version of redhat. Five point two was I think Apollo. I started with that a L O N G time ago. If I had to give you a kind of comparison, kind of like the win 3.1 of Redhat era. As long as your processor, and the rest of your hardware supports it, go up a few versions. If my memory is any good the progression was 5.2 6.0 6.1 6.2 7.0 7.1 7.2 7.3 --> 8.0 At any rate, there was a lot of hardware support added since 5.2 If you are not 'blessed' with broadband, there are still a lot of places like cheapbytes, and others that will sell gpl linux disks pretty cheap.

I can mail you a copy of 7.1 if you want. I got copies that were just being thrown away, and I prefer slackware. Email: Abomb7682@hotmail.com if your interested.

oh yeah, and another tip, logging in as root leaves you vulnerable to a lotta things. at the command prompt as root type "adduser" and make personal user account to sign in from. if you need to perform any tasts that need root permissions type "su" and your root password to gain root authority.

Take a look at the sites listed in the first message of this forum. One or two in particular are worth looking at: Linux.org and Linuxnewbie.org . The others are great too.

Do get a more uptodate version of Linux. Much better hardware support.

If you want to find drivers try the Linux Hardware Database. I always tell people to buy a good book, but most of the guys around here tell me that real men spend hours and hours just punching keys until they figure it out. (I don't buy that line of reasoning, but if that's how they learn, ok by me.)

CH

PS I forgot about the Linux Documentation Project. It is a must.

It starts with the desire to get away from a monopoly & having to pay a lot .. with patience and a desire to learn, you should see what a lot of the community has already seen .. linux is just plain better, in every single respect.
